Is there a reason why a hotel wont release the hold on my credit card? it's already been close to 2 wks and they still havent given me my money back. I called and they keep giving me the run around saying there might be an issue as to why they kept it but nothing is coming up on the system. (makes no sense right?)
When i first made the reservation, I only made it for 2 but it became 3 without my knowledge and I had no choice. (Long story ) Not sure if the hotel took notice or if it even matters to them. But I cant get a straight answer as to why they wont release the hold.
Anyone know why it takes so long? Ive called my bank and they told me to check with the hotel..

So you booked a room for 2 and then stowed away an extra person without notifying the hotel? If it is a hotel where the price quoted is for 2 ppl/room (like many hotels in Europe instead of the US standard of 4 ppl/room), then yes, the hotel would care. That very well may be the reason they haven't released it yet: you owe them money.

I didnt know the 3rd person was staying with us until he walked into the room and made himself comfortable. Long story as to what happened there. (I actually have another thread about it). I checked in then went to my room. So they didn’t see the 3rd person. Only one who could have noticed is the housekeeper who made her rounds while we were in the room.
And is the hotel seriously telling you they haven't released the hold yet? What type of hotel is this?
Debit card. And that's what theyre telling me.. It's Marriott. (Springhill Suites). I keep getting a different story from everyone.. (even spoke to the manager). We didnt leave the hotel trashed or anything. Just trying to figure out why they wont release the hold. Having the extra person in the room came to mind but I didnt want to ask
I would call/write Marriott corporate. Usually once they are involved, matters get cleared up pretty quickly (I say this as a former Marriott Gold who had to take care of several issues over the years).
Ah, debit card. Figured. Sometimes it can take a long time for that money to reappear in your account - I've heard as long as ten business days with some banks (most Marriotts actually have a warning at the front desk about using a debit card for incidental holds for this reason). I kind of doubt a Marriott is telling you they haven't released the hold on your card and can't tell you why. More than likely, they have released the hold, and the problem lies with your bank.
