We are planning a two week trip for late September and up until yesterday it was going to be a driving trip from home into New England. Now we're looking at Colorado/Wyoming/Utah area.
Since this is very preliminary, I'm wondering how many days would be good (or long enough) to spend in Yellowstone and Grand Teton? If it helps, we are photography buffs. TIA!
In 2014 we flew into Denver and headed to MT Rushmore then headed towards Devils Tower, visited Custers last stand then on to Yellow Stone spent a few days and headed to the Tetons.
After there it was on to Flaming Gorge, Rocky Mountain National Park, back into Denver and Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods.
I know I am giving you a little more info than you need but there are so many picturesque areas in and around the Tetons and Yellow Stone, and depending where you are coming in from they could be along your drive to get there.
We flew in on a Saturday and flew out the following Sunday. We saw quite a bit more but you get the drift. The days were leisurely not long drives but there are good size distances between the spots to visit.
A lot to see in Yellow Stone and even in October it was busy and rooms were full. We had made room reservations in advance.
We missed some things but just go in knowing what you want to see and go from there. If you have a good ten days in the area you should be able to see a lot.
Three weeks in both parks would be excessive. I'd say ten days is the absolute longest I'd stay. They're fun but three weeks is too long IMHO.
Well, the OP already said he was planning a two week trip, so I suspect he's going to not pay a lot of attention to either of these answers.
To the OP: Are you asking if two weeks is long enough to see just Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks? Or were your referring to your entire trip? I'd say that one week is more than enough time to see both of those parks. I'd plan on maybe a couple of days in Grand Teton and maybe three or four max in Yellowstone. And take warm clothes. Yellowstone gets cold rather early in the year.

Seriously, a week is enough time to see both parks. If you insist on spending more time, enlarge your trip. I can list some other destinations for you.

Not necessarily. The OP said he's a photographer; allowing more time makes it easier to be at scenic places when the light conditions are optimal for a great shot. Likewise, anyone who's a serious hiker, geyser watcher, or wildlife watcher will benefit from more time in both parks. But if a person just wants to drive the Yellowstone loop road and see a few of the major sites, a week is plenty of time to see the highlights of the two parks.

You should spend as much time as possible "in Yellowstone Nat'l Park", there is so much to see you need a minimum of 4 or 5 days inside the park. Two weeks would allow you to do everything at a reasonable pace and not rushing through different areas of the park.
We spent 3 days in Yellowstone and 2.5 days in the Tetons. We went during the off tourist times when kids were in school. If you're doing a lot of photography then I'd double those times.
