I live in Southern California and love going to Europe in the winter!

I also found it eerily funny that many people living in the East Coast travel to Caribbean repeatedly. Once I heard a couple on a cruise ship bragging that they have been to the Caribbean a dozen times. Other than water more turquoise, hardly can Caribbean be compared with Hawaii or other similar places like Canary Islands, Bali or Phuket. But Caribbean is damned cheap though especially the alcohol.

I happen to agree that Hawaii is way, way better than the Caribbean. But what the Caribbean offers over Hawaii for an East Coaster is a much shorter amount of travel time to get there.

The problem with Caribbean is I don't feel safe at all in those places. Most stops are Third World countries. Even destination like US Virgin Island is scary.

Exactly...as an East Coaster who's not all that fond of being trapped and shoehorned into a pressurized can and flying, I can get to any Caribbean locale in 3.5 - 5 hours....to Hawaii is 10+ hrs flying, more expensive tix, etc. Usually my limit is about 4 hrs (and I'm not even a smoker) and locations within that flight time are where I'll plan trips. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to visit Hawaii but it's not in my view at this point...and yes, I realize I can break it up with stopovers, etc but that's not really for me either....not when the various islands and Europe are much easier and cheaper to get to from the Northeast US.

The Netherlands, any town but the sheep hole Amsterdam. If i had to pick a single town it would be Haarlem. I have returned there repeatedly.

Newport, Oregon Very nice little town on the coast. Have also been there several times. Am going there soon to look at condos to buy.

Las Vegas, Nevada So many different things to do and see. Been there a few times and I find gambling very boring.

Mobile. I haven't been back there since I lived there in the 50s, but it seems magical when I recollect it. The air, the light, the ghosts of the culture seemed to have a special quality about them.

New York City and Washington, DC. One never runs out of things to see and do.

The west side of Los Angeles. I never tire of the area or the beaches.
