For me it has to do with the fact that the international travel that got me to most of the continents was during a round-the-world-trip and it was easier to combine Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia/Pacific in a general easterly direction over a year’s time. Squeezing in South America would have been too much for our budget (both time and money). Plus since I live in North America I thought we’d have plenty of time to get to it later. Of course it’s taken longer then I thought, but we’ve planned for next year.
