To elaborate on a good idea,
Airfare – Cheap Airfares – Cheap Airfare Deals is a website where you enter the city that you travel from. After you have signed up (at no charge), they send 2-3 e-mails per week of ALL discounted airfares to and from that city. The advantage of that website is that they cover all the major airlines, including Southwest and Allegiant Airlines which are omitted from many sites. Also, they give you the links to the cheap fares.
For the record, Southwest does NOT always have the cheapest fares (and it is generally the ONLY airline I fly). However, unlike the other airlines, they avoid hidden fees and you can cancel your trip without penalty. I am supposed to be in Seattle this weekend but was forced to cancel when I was promoted. There are no fees to reschedule this trip to April.
Right now, I would STRONGLY recommend that you look for package deals to Las Vegas as some of the deals that I am seeing in Chicago are unbelievably cheap. Recently, I saw a RT to Las Vegas with 4 nights pp, double occupancy for $275 including transportation (hotel was mid-range near Strip) through one of the major vacation package websites. I would also check out Funjet and Apple Vacations through your local travel agent.
I hope that helps.
