Yes but there are people stuck there in the UK right now. They are out of funds, out of food and even worse, some of them are out of prescription medicines like insulin. If people start dying in the airport there, it is not going to look good.

Maybe now people will slow down enough to buy passage on a luxury liner once again to be able to travel at will not depending on air travel anymore. This change needs to happen anyway with peak oil causing fuel prices to skyrocket (IF they can even buy air craft fuel) in the future.

Also remember as the worlds oil supply dwindles to zero ONLY military aircraft will be allowed fuel to fly so the world better get busy building ships again!
There are no ships left that go from the USA to Europe. I think we should also look at some way to build a bridge or a tunnel across the Bering Strait in Alaska so that travel to Europe by rail and car would be possible. That would be awesome!

That's a frightening feeling to need meds, think you planned for a trip, and not have what you need medically. For some, it's life or death. I hope they all will be okay in that regard! No Joke!

Ok, so the latest this morning is that Manchester Airport expects to be closed possibly until Friday!!! That means my aunt won't get home until this weekend at the very earliest. I'm assuming she won't be on one of the first flights to resume, but it's still a bit worrisome.

They do have ATMs in the UK. The procedure is remarkably similar to the USA. You go to ATM, insert card, type pin, get money. You then take money to shop and buy food. They also have credit cards and they, too, work the same way as in the USA.

They also have the NHS. If you are out of meds, you go to the ER, explain your situation, show them the med bottles and you get a prescription. You probably won't even get charged.

No joke .... despite what some say over here, the NHS works pretty well.

A good pilot will do his best to avoid flying a plane into something that will destroy its engines and endanger his crew and passengers. No plane has ever been built that will fly through anything.

This is a time for patience and common sense. Ash will eventually settle to lower altitudes so the airliners can at least cruise above it. It's unfortunate and an inconvenience for many, but it's best to wait until flight is safe.

The Titanic

Ships run on diesel so why is it any better to use them? We either have fuel or we don't.

How long does it take to cross the Atlantic on a ship compared to a plane.?
