Hi, everyone! My young adult son is taking a job with PCA in Wallula; now, he needs to figure out the best place to live. We’re from out of state and it’s his first apartment hunt, so he’s looking for advice. The HR folks at PCA recommended West Pasco or Walla Walla. Any opinions on those? His primary concern is reasonable commute (approx. 30-min.) because he’s going to be working long hours. Related to that, he’s still driving his old Prius for now, so winter road conditions are also an important consideration—is US 12 between WW and Wallula as well maintained during wintery weather as I-82 between Tri-Cities and Wallula?

In terms of housing, he doesn’t need to live in the newest, shiniest apartment complex, but he wants a comfortable one bedroom in a decent complex in a safe area. Then the overall vibe of the area of ano; he’s been going to trade school year-round for the past 2 years—he’s looking forward to being done with that and living someplace where he can meet new friends around his age and have a social life again. Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Well the road from Pasco is somewhat better. I don't see Walla Walla or Pasco as one considerably "better" than the other. Walla Walla is more of a college town. I would suggest shopping both markets.

I don't live in that area, but scoped it out when my adult child was considering working at the National Lab in Richland.

I didn't like the Tri-Cities area at all, very drab & ugly. I think it would be boring for a young single person. Walla Walla is more attractive, & as mentioned, is a college town. Pasco used to have the highest crime of the Tri-Cities, I don't know how true that is now. This forum is nearly dead, maybe someone who lives there can help.
