Is that a joke? i can understand for high schools but university? if someone wants to study mexican culture, they should study it.

It has nothing to do with studying Mexican Culture. It has to do with this class being Anti-American and about how the "White Man" is enslaving the "Brown Man."

In college I majored in Anthropology and minored in Ethnic Studies. Ethnic studies isn't just about Mexican Culture when you get to college. It's about all ethnicities; their culture, mythology, subsistence patterns, marriage traditions, and all other aspects of culture. Ethnic was African, Latino, Asian, European, and others. If taught properly, and without bias, Ethnic Studies can be a wonderful cultural learning experience.

Some teachers came out as whistle-blowers a few years ago and said that often it was not even state-certified teachers teaching the classes. Some of the things they're teaching are certainly controversial.

That's really too bad. Ethnic Studies, when done right, can be an excellent course. I loved comparing the different cultures and their belief systems, cultural patterns, and idealogies. I actually took several courses under the heading of Ethnic Studies to get my minor. But, if it's going to be taught with a bias, then it shouldn't be taught. That doesn't help the kids at all, and is probably more detrimental than educational. That's a shame.

Sadly, there's a HUGE difference between Ethnic Studies and the hate filled trash that La Raza, as well as many other groups, push to have crammed down the throats of students nowadays.

Are there no state standards that govern the curricula being taught in the Ethnic Studies classes? There are many really good curriculums out there that the schools could utilize other than just what La Raza and others put forth. Why don't the superintendants and administrators do something about that?
