I did a forum search and found Tubac only mentioned briefly, and there's nothing for Tubac in the City by City thread. Also CD only shows 2 Fedex and a UPS for businesses. A search for Tubac stores on google shows there's quite a few little shops (mostly crafts), restaurants and a mall. So it appears that a drive to either Green Valley or Rio Rico would be needed for any real shopping.

Is there anyone who could provide me with more info on Tubac? From google's map images it looks like a beautiful place.

it's very much a tourist/shopping destination and not so much a real town at all....a very mini-Sedona in some ways....

if you're thinking of moving there, scattered "ranches" (many are second homes for out-of-staters) are in the region (which really covers several square miles), various trailer/mobile home areas, old 50s-era places here and there, and a new-ish subdivision immediately south of the tourist area of Tubac called Barrio De Tubac

Question for you, Deelighted . . .

Are you planning a short "tourist type" visit to Tubac or thinking about a home there?

No expert here, however, my opinion of Tubac is a fun place to visit, a few interesting restaurants and a number of shops with primarily Mexican Pottery, Metal Flowers / Plants, etc but I doubt seriously if I would be happy living there.

MY TWO CENTS WORTH . . .

Thinking along the lines of short-term rental. The apt. I found really fits into my tight budget so I plan to view it when I get to Arizona in mid-October. I'm currently not having much luck looking for low income apt. openings. There seemed to be more openings when I was checking in April and May. So my thought is to rent in Tubac until something comes available.

Love, love, love Tubac! So many unusual shops and interesting things to buy. Oh and eat at Elvira's!

Tubac is a small town that is midway between Nogales and Green Valley. There is a small permanent community of perhaps 2,000 - 4,000 people and there are several small communities within its area. There is quite a bit of housing in the area. The prices that I have seen on recent construction are relatively high for the vicinity. I am basing this more or less on what I have seen in the local papers and several friends who live in the Tubac area.

It is basically an artsy, tourist area. Prices in Tubac - restaurants and shops - are pretty pricey.

As for living there, the only close supermarket is about seven miles away in Rio Rico. For a major supermarket, you will need to go to Nogales or Green Valley. For general merchandise, you will need to go to Sahuarita or Nogales.

I believe that they have a show of some sort nearly every month except during the summer months. During those periods, you will encounter heavy traffic all weekend long.

I don't understand why my thread was moved from the Arizona forum to the Tuscon forum. Could someone please explain the why? After all, Tubac is in a different county than Tucson.

I do not know where all the low-income housing is located in Tubac. Most of the rentals that I have encountered have been pretty expensive. If you are looking for lower cost short-term rentals you would do better looking in Tucson or the NW portion of Green Valley.

still wondering how you ended up zeroing in on the Tubac area for lower-cost housing...and why you even chose it in the first place!....

to the locals (Tucson, Phoenix), Tubac has more of a touristy, artsy-fartsy, shopping vibe and seems not really a place to live a regular life, unless you're retired, a long-time local family, local business owner, wealthy snowbird, artist with other sources of income, etc......

just want you to know the rep Tubac has here in Arizona
