My daughter recently graduated and looks like she will be getting an offer from Raytheon to relocate to Tucson from the Midwest. I’ve been looking around and see that some recommend Oro Valley but that appears to be quite away from Raytheon (ie 40 min drive). There’s an apartment complex named Encantada Rita Ranch and the Condominiums at Williams Center nearby. Are these safe? Are there recommendations for safe areas?

As a rule anywhere east of Kolb Road on the east side of Tucson is probably going to be fine. Rita Ranch and Vail are out there. Very nice but further out from town. Vail though, you can jump on I-10 and get into town for activities.

I'm just outside of Oro Valley and a lot of Raytheon employees out here. They even have an express bus that runs directly to the main facility. But the younger Raytheon employees from what I've been told tend to live near Rita Ranch or Sahuarita.

Just checked the temp in Tucson. Right now, it's a sultry 109F...on the way to 111F.

Since I would assume that Raytheon is going to put her into temp housing for a short while, I would recommend that she show up the first week and ask her coworkers where they recommend. MOST people working at Raytheon movied in from elsewhere.

Which campus will she be working at? I'm a recently retired Raytheon Engineer/Manager. I would not recommend she live anywhere near the airport campus, or Sahuarita. I would say somewhere near Sam Hughes (near UofA and lots of younger folks in school time), Oro Valley (not a lot of younger folks, but safer), or Marana (straight shot down I10 if she is at the airport site). Oro Valley will be the safest area IMO. Many many Raytheon folks live and commute from OV. And, its one of the most beautiful areas of Tucson. I would focus more on "safer" areas, then how long the commute. She probably went to one of the hiring events at Starr Pass, and that area is also a nice area (some nice apartments in Starr Pass), however, the surrounding area around it, not so much.

Good luck to her, and her new career.

Thank you for the recommendations. She will be at the airport site. She didn’t attend a job event, just applied for the position.
