I'm looking forward to my visit and we're staying in Tubac and then w/family in Oro Valley and then for 4 days at Westward Look. Just found out we can still smoke outside of the restaurant (The Gold Room - fabulous food) but not on the covered patio. We can sit in the "middle terrace" and eat and smoke there but there are no misters and if it rains we are sunk!

Also we were thinking of eating at Acacia or the Ventana Room. I find out I can't smoke on the patio at Acacia and the Ventana Room is closed.

Help!! I'm a serious foodie - looking for great food, and a patio where we can smoke that is covered if it rains and hopefully has mist.

I really wanted to eat at Acacia because I understand the chef won against the Iron Chef on the Food Channel. That is not an easy accomplishment and I was dying to try the food.

But - my husband and I enjoy sitting, eating, smoking and drinking all at the table. We don't want to get up and down. This is something only smokers understand. We live in Virginia and can still smoke indoors at some places so we are used to being able to enjoy our meals this way.

I know some of you will tell us to quit and thank you for caring about our health - but we really just want to enjoy a great restaurant patio in comfort and our standards are very high on food - price is not an object.

Anyone? I'm desperate Thanks

Sierra! Where are you!!!

ETA: I have no ideas because I don't smoke but hopefully someone can chime in here. Seems like places are becoming fewer and far between.

That's right up my alley! Disgusting!

The problem now is that it also rains and most of the roofs of the patios are not solid!

The only solid dependable roof that comes to my mind right now is Jonathan's Cork - Jonathan's Cork-Fine Southwestern Dining in Tucson, Arizona . I believe some of the tables in Hacienda del Sol were under solid roof, but I'm not sure - Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort - Tucson, Arizona (http://www.haciendadelsol.com/grill/index.cfm?action=ViewMenu&NameID=9&menu=1 - broken link) . Trying to remember if the roof at Congress was solid... I believe it was... The Historic Hotel Congress - Tucson, AZ » The Cup Cafe .

Other places working only in decent weather:

- Montana Avenue - FOX Restaurant Concepts - Montana Avenue: Great American Cooking (http://www.foxrestaurantconcepts.com/montana_avenue.html - broken link) - uncomfortable little tables (like trunks), though, on the smoking patio

- On the Border - On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina Homepage (http://www.ontheborder.com/index.asp - broken link) - really nice and peaceful patio for us smokers; music, too

- My Big Fat Greek Restaurant - My Big Fat Greek Restaurant, Tucson, AZ (http://www.azeats.com/mybigfatgreek/map-tucson.htm - broken link)

- Ric's Cafe - Ric's Homepage

Even though many places have large patios, it doesn't necessarily mean they're smoking patios! I’m particularly happy to see those stuck-ups fold! And they DO!

Enjoy dining in the US!

Or they may be smoking but you can't have alcohol out there.

Maryland's been smoke free in restaurants for years and they just recently did away with smoking in bars. Moving here wasn't a big shock in that sense. But, unfortunately I haven't enjoyed all at one table for quite some time. It's a bummer - I feel your pain.

Well, the witch hunt in the restaurants here started in '99 as well (right after CA… who could guess this one…) , but there still are some places where you can enjoy it all at one table. The problem is that even though the weather here is supposedly nice, in the evenings it's pretty much hot, cold, or raining most of the year.

Say, Mary... how about you and your entourage just carry around a special covering of your own (perhaps on wheels?)... like maybe invent your own rolling smoking tent or some other portable enclosed covering, complete with misters - and, perhaps even attach your own Muzak or such...(?)...

Huh? Sound like a plan?

As you can probably imagine, your sarcasm is not welcome on this thread.
