When I was younger I used to watch all these shows. Now I don't even know when they are going to air.
I remember when watching the 'Miss America' show was an anticipated and talked about national past time.
When I happened to turn to that channel last night they were doing the bikini competition (where all wore the exact same two-piece suit).
The first contestant I happened to see was Ireland. "Pretty brunette" I thought. However, the next ten or so women all looked exactly the same. I mean, how can a woman from Albania look exactly like the Irish girl? There were simply carbon-copies (Australia was a bit different, being blondish with shorter hair).
Anyway, I turned it off after watching the 12th look-alike walk around. Indeed, not much on at all last night (I ended up watching old Seinfeld shows).
The top ten were not as attractive as they have been in many previous years. Some of the most beautiful women were cut early. Miss Guatemala and Miss Mexico (who won) were okay. Miss USA Rima Fakhi who I think is beautiful got cut early.
I enjoyed watching Miss Universe years ago to see how there are so many - different - beautiful people all around the world.
Sadly, they are mostly cookie-cutter beauty these days, so it is not really fun to watch it anymore.
I cannot guess a number but I would say the majority of those women has been through extreme beauty enhancements (at least to what their concept of beauty is) to be on these shows and it is sad to see such flat standards.
I put it on to see the parade of nations. I always loved that growing up. I also wanted to see Bret Michaels. I usually like him but I think he was rather awkward and nervous on this show. There was way too much "let's rock." The contestants didn't seem very interesting at all so I watched other things. I did make sure to see the ending and I think they chose the right woman, the one who most had "the look" of a Miss Universe.
