The show is certainly a little bit chi-chi and elitist, but then again, so is New York in real life. I'll even admit to being a dude who finds the reruns entertaining, but even though it just a TV show, i'll sometimes cringe at how elitist it really is. They're all portrayed as kicking around with imaginary celebrities and power players, dating wealthy money managers or movie stars, marrying into Park Avenue, and sporting impossibly expensive and varied wardrobes...all as if that's par for the course if you're a decently attractive and moderately successful woman living in New York. A tad far fetched in that regard to be sure.
flyimetro,
What do you mean that women over 35 who can't find a good man, tells you what kind of person they are? I'm 40 & single. Why? Because I don't feel like I should settle just because I'm 40 & single. It's really difficult to date when you're in your mid to late 30's & now 40's, believe me.
As for Sex & the City....it was a great show. Fun to watch. It's tv, it's called ENTERTAINMENT! Isn't that why we watch tv???

It's not all that much different than the plot of Entourage, except that's dudes in LA.
No ever complains that guys take Entourage too seriously and it's ruining America, like they do with SaTC

If we're making this comparison I have to say I think the guys of Entourage don't take themselves as seriously as Carrie and friends on SaTC. They make fun of each other constantly. There is nothing remotely elitist about how they act. Sure they lease expensive cars and rent fancy houses, but you also see the other extreme. When they're running back to New York because they ran out of money. In Entourage their houses get foreclosed upon or they move when Vince doesn't get enough work. That would never happen on SaTC, the closest they came was when Carrie had to get a downpayment together to buy her apartment and borrowed from Charlotte. But is Carrie ever worried that she doesn't have enough readers? She is always complaining that she maxed out her credit card buying shoes, but doesn't it ever stop her from buying more? Money seems less a worry and more an afterthought. The money factor makes SaTC totally unrealistic for me. Well, it is unrealistic, it's TV, but still.
