We only watch sports actually live. But certain shows get a same night watch and some for later in the week. Usually "hot" shows that get lots of discussion at work or online and that we are usually looking forward to their airing like True Blood (well True Blood is grandfathered in on goodwill from early seasons), Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Mad Men, etc. Other shows that we still like a fair amount, but maybe not quite as much spoiler potential get watched the same week and a few others we save for off times of the year or shows that we have more for background while we are cooking. But two shows on at the same timeslot specifically does not bother me as we have plenty of DVR tuners to go around. There are times when we have had 5 things recording.

Another one who had trouble reading the question.

Several things will influence my decision, I will likely first tune into the one I've been watching the longest and or the one I feel I most excited about not missing. If I really have a burning love for both shows, depends on the cliff hangers and I'm likely going to channel surf between the two, no cliff hangers, again, the one I find most compelling. This has at one time or another happened, so, I'm use to this drill. And of course I will watch one or both another time on-demand later to catch anything I missed during switching back and forth. There are a few shows I'm not switching between, luckily, they've never had competition with other shows I've wanted to see and I so hope Grimm and TWD aren't ever on at the same time. What would I do.

Since I cut the chord, I watch shows on HuluPlus. The only shows I have to watch live are those on CBS, because CBS isn't on HuluPlus. If there isn't a show I want to watch on CBS, then I'll watch the longest-running show. If both shows have been on the air the same amount of time, I'll watch the one I like the most. If I like them equally, I'll watch the one I know will be all over social media, or talked about at work.

This is what I do, too. But, it's also based in the one that aired first in the season. For example, at 9PM on Sunday, it's True Blood (HBO) vs The Last Ship (TNT). I've been watching True Blood since Season 1 so The Last Ship I watch On Demand on another night. Also, at 10:00P on Sunday night, it's The Leftovers (HBO) vs The Strain (FX). Both are first season shows but The Leftovers started a few weeks before The Strain premiered so The Strain gets watched On Demand on another night.

LOL, who still watches shows when they come on? The invention of the DVR changed my life. Literally. I never got to watch what I wanted because I was putting the babies to bed.

I gotta dump Charter DVR. It can't record 2 shows and watch a movie or another show at the same time.

I watch Big Brother as scheduled and hit "on demand" for Rookie Blue on Saturday when there is nothing on.

Usually depends entirely on my mood at that moment.
Other considerations would be which one I was more involved with last week, which had the better previews for this week's episode, where we are story-wise in the season (for example, is one airing the last episode of the season?)...
It just depends.
