How many of us remember watching a TV show and in the opening, an announcer would say: "(Name of show)...brought to you tonight by..." Or when the shows' stars plugged the sponsor. Like "Bewitched" was sponsored by Chevrolet; "My Three Sons" had Hunt-Wesson; Danny Thomas had General Foods, the list goes on...
Ah, for the Glory Days of Television!

They still do that. All last season of "Graceland" we'd get "brought to you by the 2014 Kia Optima" (oddly enough Graceland now features Toyotas). The pilot was "brought to you with limited interruption by the 2014 Kia Optima"

Or product placement. The entire episode of "Face Off" was brought to us by Samsung and we know that because of everyone using Samsung tablets and making mention of being able to show the images on the Samsung tvs on their work benches.

That is just one example. It is everywhere these days,

Soaps still do this, typically right after the opening sequence. Shows produced by Procter and Gamble (airing on NBC and CBS at the time) would always have an announced sponsor for the first half hour, then usually another announced sponsor for the second half hour, since P&G has so many different products to plug. I recall most of them having a staff announcer who did the voice-overs for the products as well as the opening/closing sequences. Nowadays it's some non-descript voice-over artist, but the idea is the same.

Yes! I thought I was the only one annoyed by those things.

And sponsorships have gotten out of control, especially during sports events on TV. I don't watch a lot of sports, but other people in my house do, and it's like every little thing they do has a sponsor.

Technology zaps the commercials, so they have to work the product into as much of the other time as possible. Frankly I'm surprised product placement within the program isn't a lot worse than it is.

It's still really bad.

Yes but back in the day they said it with more authority!

I remember the cartoon specials the most. Charlie Brown was always by Peppermint Patty. And then the first or second commercial at each break was for PP. This is how I was introduced to the concept of advertising!
