This list will probably include The Walking Dead one day, but it's still a work in progress so I did not list it. I suspect Mad Men will make it, from what little I've seen, but I have to watch it first (I'm waiting for it to end so I can gorge myself on it over one glorious several-months period). And what I'm seeing so far of Better Call Saul is leaving me very impressed - Vince Gilligan is a genius.
Original programming on cable channels and streamable content has created an economic dynamic that is producing series of unprecedented quality in terms of both writing (by not having to dumb it down for the broadcast television masses) and production (due to the budget allowed by the cable/streaming delivery system).
At least for dramas, we are living in a golden age of television.
For traditional broadcast series, Northern Exposure easily tops my list.
