My kids get annoyed with me because I’m always saying there was a Seinfeld episode about this or that. It still applies today. Just the other day on City-Data someone posted a thread in the Houston forum asking if people look down on others for having the new area code. I thought, yes! There’s even a Seinfeld episode about that!
I totally agree. It's great how EVERYTHING in life can relate to Seinfeld in some way.
Teen Girls have discovered Friends and it’s popularity is coming back. It’s so very 90’s, but the kids just love that kitsch. I see lots of T-shirt’s with the friends logo on girls aged 12-16. It’s also very popular in England, Emilia Clarke is a huge fan. It’s funny to see her fan girl out when she meets “Joey” on the Graham Norton show
I think Friends episodes were geared towards upper middle class and people that aspire to be upper Middle class.
Seinfeld was geared more towards the common everyday 9-5 *******.
I have trouble watching a show if I can't root for the characters. Jerry and his group were not people I cared about because they were callous and mean in many of the shows.
I've seen almost every episode of Seinfeld. The humor is just unmatched. Friends is OK. I've seen some episodes and they're pretty funny.
Subconsciously I think...
Friends just has a white, preppy, popular kids, upper class vibe to it that I didn't really connect with. How I Met your mother does too.
I prefer Big Bang Theory and Seinfeld because the characters are more outcasts. At least George is.
Not to be racist, because almost all of the characters on the other two shows are white too. But they feel less demographically restricting... or at least I identify more with the characters. I think the character of George really helped that show be a hit more than any other.
It's really tough for me to decide between these two shows. There were singular moments when each show made me laugh, but were nothing like "Happy Endings". I feel like "Happy Endings" had the best ensemble cast and was a very underrated comedy. I have watched reruns of that show over and over again and it still makes me laugh. Another reason to hate ABC after that cut that show too early.
There's a lot of pop culture references and it's even set in a New York City that has long since changed.
I think the most glaring difference compared to today is the absence of cellphones in the Seinfeld era. If you missed a date or a meeting, you had to use a payphone.
