Another characteristic common to these movies is that they will often feature an actress whose career peaked in the 1970s-1990s as the mother of one of the young lovers (usually the woman). I saw Lindsay Wagner on a recent Hallmark Christmas movie. Wendie Malick is a frequent Hallmark Mom.

I assume the Lifetime movies are much more likely to feature nannies who seduce the husband and/or kidnap the children after locking the mom in the basement of a cabin out in the middle of nowhere.

Not their Christmas movies, but otherwise yes. Those others you will recognize because one or more of the following words will be in the title.

Deadly
Betrayed
Stranger
Stalked
Deceived

...along with the appropriate nouns such as baby, mother, daughter, husband etc.

There were also the “At 17” movies from the first decade of the 21st Century.

Meredith Baxter starred in five Hallmark/Lifetime movies through 2009, then she came out of the closet as a lesbian and since then has had one tiny bit part in a Hallmark movie despite continuing to work regularly as a guest star on TV series. I guess the "wholesome" image was shattered.

Why can't it be both? What better Christmas gift is there than getting your family back after your deranged nanny crashes her jeep into a tree after trying to escape the police in the woods and then goes to jail?
