I think Glee will endure. It has generated a lot of downloads via iTunes so that's an extra source of income outside of advertisers. Plus Fox has American Idol (and as such has the top show on tv) which is why they are the best network for giving a show a chance to build up a following - they can afford it.
The pilot rocked and so far I've been a little disappointed with the new episodes so far but I'm still enjoying it and I'll keep watching for now.
This week's wasn't quite as good, IMO. Not enough of the Cheerios coach and not enough of the Principal. And while I started out sympathizing with the dark-haired girl (I suck at character names - sorry), she's starting to get on my last nerve already. I can see why she's not well-liked at school -- she's SO stuck up!
That has been my favorite episode so far! My 4 year old wandered out of bed when I was watching and insisted that I save it so he can watch the football players dance to Single Ladies over and over. LOL
I love Glee so much I'd marry it. The Queen number from this week's ep was really good, and Kristin Chenoweth is always cute as a button, even when she's playing a loser.
It's a highly succesfull series about a high school show choir. It is fraught with parodies of American life(especially teenagers) and pop culture, but it also has its serious points as well. They sing 4-5 popular songs per episode, everything from Journey to Barbara Streisand.
Well, it has been a long time since I was in high school, and frankly, I don't remember high school being anything like this, and I did sing in one of school's 6 choirs! But I adore this show! My two 20-something sons were always telling me about all the drama when they were in school and now I guess I believe them.
Trying to compare Fame and Glee is like trying to compare Father Knows Best to Married with Children. I am old enough to remember Fame and I do not see much resemblance between these two shows, other than musical productions. Fame was a sincere attempt to showcase the lives of students at a perfoming arts school in NYC. The show took itself seriously. Glee, on the other hand, is a farce. As previously stated, it is full of whimsy, quirkiness, and dark humor. Anyone who takes it too seriously is missing the point.
I can't wait for the Madonna episode.
