The Middle is one of the very few shows that is about the average American family struggling to make ends meet. With the father working and not working and the mother doing her best with a part time job and still running a family. The Middle is one of the best TV shows ever. It is about us or at least most of us but we can all identify. Patricia Heaton is nothing short of fantastic in this series. You have to love Sue, Eden Sher, who sees the best in whatever disaster comes her way and persists no matter what. The Middle is one of the best shows to come from ABC and I hope it continues.
We love The Middle and look forward to it each week. We were kind of bummed out that it wasn't on last night due to the CMA Awards. Brick is just adorable and Sue tries so hard. Love Mike, the stable husband, too. Frugal Hoosiers are tops at our house.
The Hecks did have an old, broken dryer, but found the newer/nicer one in their front yard after a tornado.
The kid who plays Brick reminds me of an actor from Malcolm in the Middle. Different actor though.
I researched the show, and it was actually on with a different cast a few years back--and the only actor they kept in both shows was the one who played Brick.

Do you have a link? All I could find was that when it was in development in 2006-07 they were going to use Ricki Lake as the mother. Ugh.
I'm tepid on the show mainly because I don't like Patricia Heaton's character. I like all the other ones, even Chris Kataan. Brick is the best, followed by Sue, then Axl. Another reason for my tepidness is because this show claims to be set in southern indiana and the family seems to be a multi-generational southern Indiana family, but there isn't a kentuckiana accent in the show .. oh wait, there was one once ... when Brooke Shields played a complete white trash ho-bag ... boy, she had a kentuckiana accent .. sheesh! The characters on Raising Hope have more realistic accents. The Hecks sound like they are from Wisconsin.
I was thinking they were central Indiana. Did they specify region?
You're right though that the Kentucky accent, and people with it, unfairly get typecast as "white trash." Also that the Mom can be a bit annoying at times, but I don't think I dislike her that much. Heaton's an okay actress and they give the character some good moments.
They talk about going to French Lick, so that puts them squarely in southern Indiana. I've lived down here for 4 years and the accents are very real, especially for the multi-generationals.
hmm, it doesn't say anything about being in development only...but it also doesn't mention how many episodes were filmed.
The note about Ricki Lake was correct, and as I remembered, Atticus Shafer was in both.
You may of course be correct, I don't remember seeing this advertised on TV back then.
Thanks for the link. I don't remember it being advertised either. Oh well, doesn't matter anyway. I prefer the cast on this one but I'm glad they kept Atticus Shafer. I love Brick.
