Matt is going through a middle-age crisis but is probably also worried that his health is failing him and he cannot get around like he used to and he is only in his forties. They have mentioned this in a few episodes. It's possible that he and Amy sleep in separate rooms because he uses a c-pap machine at night and those things are loud.
Something like that entered my mind. There's something of a downside when people get used to and think "you're just like everyone else." That being they might think you really are just like everyone else, but that's not always the case.
If I ever marry I will almost certainly sleep in a separate bed. Not only do I use a Bi-Pap I have a brittle-bone disorder so I'd be concerned about getting hurt if she moves too abruptly in her *sleep. This is obviously not their situation, but not sleeping in the same bed doesn't always mean a big thing.
*Nevertheless I am capable of sex. Not all positions mind you, but anyway my celibacy is by choice. Enough on that
The Roloffs need to go the way of Jon and Kate. Like yesterday. They are a complete trainwreck. I stopped watching a few seasons ago because the kids were slovenly, careless and disrespectful. The way the speak to their father is reprehensible. Amy condones the nonsense and keeps a nasty house. Absent an intervention - it cant possibly get any better. If I saw my family in one episode I would NEVER let them back in to film that mess- I dont care how much they pay me - in the future to know you lived in that nasty, unkempt home - was so disrespectful and had so much discord - nah - not worth the price.
Every family has it's issues. It's just that most (thankfully) aren't given the "opportunity" to self destruct on TV....Why anyone would choose to do that is beyond me.
I still like the show, even with all their faults and fallibility. I found a Rolloff forum website and am amused that some people just register so they can criticize the family in every which way possible. I bet they criticize their family too.
I think if you could peek into anyone's life, you would find something about their home/discipline/kids behavior that you don't like. Trust me on that one. Our house is not sp!c and span (can't believe the word sp ic is a no no) and when I was a kid, we had our moments of spoiled brat-like behavior!
I think Matt's materialism is resulting from his stature and his health issues. He is a good business man, but I think he perceives his life as, "Let's have fun while we are here, for tomorrow we may die." I like Amy's take on it, but I think she is getting tired of trying to keep Matt in check.
And I don't see anything wrong with Zach staying on at his parents' house after his Dad passes. It is a family business after all. But I don't see that happening. Zach is my favorite. I see him moving as far ideologically in life from his father as he can get.

[quote=auntieannie68;11182644]at least 50% of marriages end in divorce sometimes years later---people change and sometimes not for the better and as one gets older sometimes you expect your partner would mature and get some sense---often that doesn't happen![/quo
I bet Amy wouldn't be talking about a divorce if her only income was that of a part time pre school "teacher".
