I only caught one or two episodes when it was on PBS and was pretty intrigued with it. It finally got to the top of my queue and watched the first 3 in sequence. It is really great.
Jane Horrocks ("Babs" in "Chicken Run" to Yanks) is a supermarket manager who gets PO'd at politicians from the major parties when they start fighting in front of the grocery she manages. After getting interviewed on several TV programs and pointing out that "I could do a better job than this lot", women start to contact her and volunteer to help her and run in their own districts. Her common sense approach and obvious broad appeal causes junior members of other parties to switch their party affiliation 3 weeks before the election.
Janet McTeer plays Katherine Walker, a very smart "Tory" who despite her obvious brains and economic savvy has been stuck in the Health Ministry (shadow portfolio) and is sent to debate Ros on TV. Ros shows that she has done her homework by knowing more about Katherine than the other way around and offers to make her Chancellor of the Exchequer if she wins. This causes the Tories to panic.
BTW, Carey Mulligan from "An Education" (currently in theatres) plays Ros's younger daughter and is really good.
If you like your politics with a twist of humor (or humour!) this is a great show. 6 episodes on 2 discs.
