Thanks. Biggest concern, if we relocate here, is whether our child will be able to grow up around other jewish children. Its something we don't have currently unfortunately

Tyler has had a longtime active Jewish community. Activities announced are so common it doesn't get any special attention, such as "Wow look at that". Any city wide activity, events, leadership meetings, Jewish leaders are part of the mix.

So, with two synagogues I would be surprised if you didn't have other Jewish children to interact with. Best of Luck to you!

I haven't personally met any Jewish people since moving to Tyler three years ago, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't exist It's good to hear from others that they have a pretty active community.

Tyler is a very Christian city; more specifically, Protestant; and even more specifically, Baptist. So, you will obviously be in the minority. But, you'll find most people to be very friendly, regardless of your religious preferences. And, the city is large enough that pretty much any denomination you can think of is represented by at least a small community.

Hope you like it here!

Tyler has a large interfaith community which hosts events throughout the year. Tyler has two synagogues, a large mosque (and private Muslim school), and is the home of the Diocese of Tyler and a HUGE (and growing) Catholic community. There is also a growing Bahai community as well as literally hundreds of other religious groups and organizations. Yes, there are lots and lots of Protestants (and Baptists) in Tyler but as a "non Baptist" I have never felt like a "minority" or an "outsider" in Tyler.

I know you didn't say that would be the case - just clarifying.

I had a roommate who was Jewish and I attended some events at one of the synagogues with her. There are many Jewish families - with kids - in Tyler. In fact, the synagogue that I attended was always packed with families representing all age groups - and they were very friendly, even to this Gentile who was crashing their events! LOL

Lol, maybe! I just mean that out of my group of acquaintances (friends, coworkers - in other words, people with whom I've spend enough time with that the topic of religion comes up), none happen to be Jewish.
