I'm brand new to this forum. I may be moving to Athens shortly for my job. What kind of things are there to do in Athens? Is it good for cycling? Any places I should stay away from when looking to rent a house/apartment? What are the good places to eat?

I apologize for so many questions in one post. I don't usually do that, but I'm just trying to scope out the area some.

I'm 26 years old and I'm used to small town living, though I enjoy being able to go to the city as well.

Thank you for any help you can offer. God bless

Jeff

Athens is small town Texas. Things to do, well, not much. Main shopping, etc is in Tyler, about 30 minutes away. But you are a easy commute from Dallas so you can go into Dallas for overnights, clubs, shows, etc.

There are several things, at least, you can go to Tyler to enjoy, no need to go to Dallas. The Zoo, small scale, much shopping, and The University at Texas Tyler Cowan Performing Arts Center has many plays, acts, you would see in Dallas. But not a party town.

Thank you, Mark Senior! That makes me feel more comfortable. I was worried there would be little to do there. It does seem to be a good cycling area, which is something I enjoy a lot, but can't really do in my current area without being killed, so that's good.
