This video was prepared for the January 2013 conference regarding statehood for Puerto Rico. It's a simple and direct comparison of Puerto Rico and why the American colonies fought for independence from England. Looking at Puerto Rico's status today, it's easy to see that it really is a civil rights issue, our founding father's never intended and certainly never envisioned two classes of American citizens.
A lot of people believe that it's the conservatives who are or will be against Puerto Rico becoming a state. Not so, in truth, it is the "constitutionalists", who can be of either party, that will lead the process and bring Puerto Rico into the union as an equal in all respects.
Excellent video, this should be aired during the Superbowl on every channel.
Puerto Rican statehood is a bipartisan matter, that is why the New Progressive Party/New Party of Progress is made up of both Democrats and Republicans. There are Democrats in favor and Democrats opposed, just as there also Republicans in favor and Republicans opposed.
Ironically the most vocal opponents of statehood tend to be Democrats. Bear in mind that many Democrats receive lots of campaign donations from the pro-colony Popular Democratic Party (which in itself is linked with the national Democratic Party) - Nydia Velasquez and Luis Gutierrez in particular who are both rabid "enemies of equality" as the statehooders call them.
