We must move quite a distance- no kids at home- grown-so thats OK. Took a 50% pay cut. That sucks. Oh well. Glad for the job.
Doubt we will ever regain our old standard of living. We saved, have 401K. Survived a year without health insurance with blind luck.
Who will fuel the new economy? Won't be us.
I just talked to a 25 year old, little experience in the field, who was hired at 50K more. Guess that is the deal.
Something is wrong.

well congrats on the job. Tough to take a 50% cut but right now it's a lot better than depending on unemployment benefits to get you through

Congrats, sorry you had to take a pay cut but be glad for the job...I'm 60 and have been out for 2 years and still no job and I'll take anything at this point.

Again congrats!

Congratulations and at least it’s a job and literally better than nothing. This extreme decrease in wages seems to be the new reality. My last job was an over 40% pay reduction and I don’t expect to ever again see the “good money” I ever made. I just hope my next job pays at least similar. That 25 year old will be in the same boat when they are in their 40’s/50’s.

First of all -- Congrats Marska! Congrats indeed. Being a 50-something myself, I understand your frustration at having a 20-something come in at 50K over. Something IS terribly wrong here. I also was out of work for quite a while - going from a six figure income down to taking an 82% pay cut for the "priviledge" of working in retail. I did my Linda Blair pea soup head-spin at that, believe me!

OK, enough whining here. Chin up, shoulders back, eyes forward - Go forth and conquer, Marska! Best of luck to you!!!!

First of all, congratulations on the new job . Also, I hope you hang in there and keep saving if possible. I know I went from a full time job that paid $20K a year to a part-time job that pays a lot, lot less. However, I'm happier at this job.

As for the person who is 25 and earning $50K more...holy goodness! That person is about my age and I only know a few people that age who actually have a full-time job, much less a job that pays at least $50K a year. And I'm talking about people who went to college and received decent degrees as well. He/she better know how extremely lucky he/she is due to age discrimination (for younger and mature individuals).

I agree, something is definitely very strange when this occurs, but we have pretty much left the previous "normal" economy from what I've heard. Now, it seems more like you roll the dice and hope you get Yahtzee rather than create a strategy and feel fairly certain that you will win.

Don't worry - there's plenty more of us mid twenties who are unemployed and not getting any jobs as well.

Its hard up for everyone all around
