Hi, I am new to unemployment in NJ. I was laid off/hours reduced since 12/1/2010. I filed for unemployment and granted, got the letter to claim online and did it but the confirmation stated that "Your claim for unemployment insurance benefits has been received. Your claim is not payable at this time." I have waited almost a month, I have filed the 2nd claim and the same message appeared. I tried to call the dept, but I tried all the numbers I can get, but all the numbers said that they are busy and I need to call back some other time. I e-mailed them, but no response. I am running out on my saving and no sure what to do. Can anyone tell me how long this waiting period lasts and when will I get my first check? Thank you very much.

BTW, I have been looking for jobs without success and am willing to do anything. Does anyone happened to know of any opening in Central NJ? Thank you very much

You must speak to an agent using your phone or go to the UI office and use their phone bank for a shorter "hold" time. Nothing else will work.

go to your closest unemployment office and get there early, before they open their doors at 8am.
