I just started EB and am filing out my first yellow sheet. I will mail the sheet and claim online Sunday or Monday. All good there.

BUT starting Monday 5/9 I am scheduled for Jury Duty. I have to call in the night before to see if I really have to go, but what the heck do I do for the days (or however long) I am on Jury Duty? Should I still just fill in 3 jobs for the week (or weeks) and not mention Jury Duty? Will I be at risk of losing my EB due to Jury Duty??

Please advise. Thank you!

Don't ask, don't tell. It will create much more of a headache than you can possibly imagine. When it comes to UI, honesty is NOT the best policy. Take it from someone who's been down that road with them already.

I'm with the above poster. Unless you get selected for a long-term trial, don't bother mentioning it to NJ UI office.

I was in for Jury Duty in in NJ in 2008 and the judge was really cool. He gathered a group of 200 people and basically told us that if you are unemployed due to the economy, and want to be part of a rather interesting case and collect $40/day for up to 6 months, feel free to submit your name. If you are not interested, go back to the waiting room. So basically, he decided to only put people who want the money to go through the selection process. I was employed, so I declined.

I'm glad I asked. I'll just fill out my yellow EB form like normal and not mention anything about Jury Duty. The last thing I want to do is complicate things.

This may be helpful...

NJ Statute 43:21-4(c)(5) protects unemployment benefits during juror service. That statute states the following:
(5) An unemployed individual, who is otherwise eligible, shall not be deemed unavailable for work or ineligible solely by reason of the individual's attendance before a court in response to a summons for service on a jury.
If an employment interview is scheduled on a day on which you need to report for juror service, advise the Jury Manager in advance, if possible, and be prepared to provide verification of the interview.

It does help. Thank you. I rescheduled my Jury Duty for June and will see what happens the day I go there. If it is a one or two day thing I won't say a word to unemp. If I happen to be selected for a long-term trial I will contact unemp. and find out what to do. I know they can't hold Jury Duty against a person, but somehow with my luck they'll be a mix-up or a hold-up in my payments. It sounds like overall it is best not to say anything unless you're selected for a long-term trial.
