I was fired from my job (where I worked for 4 years) in May of this year and immediately (like, that night...) applied for CA Unemployment. I received a letter several weeks later stating that I was denied (if it would be helpful for anyone to know exact timelines for your own claim and information, I can get them and post them) because my employer claimed I was fired for misconduct. This was never discussed in my termination, and I know I was not guilty of any misconduct. I then wrote a letter of appeal and was told that I would get a hearing date. About a week later I received my hearing date and my hearing was last week. My former employer did not show up and my hearing was over in less than 15 mins. That was a Thursday. I received a letter on Saturday (literally, 2 days later) saying that I won my appeal and would be eligible for benefits (again, if more details would be helpful I would be more than happy to post for others to get info). So now my question is, what (if anything) do I need to do in order to get my benefits to be paid out, and how long does it typically take? I have tried calling EDD but always get hung up on due to the number of callers, so I am hoping someone here has had a recent experience that can share some insight.

Thanks!!

If CA is anything like AZ, appeal wins are processed manually and it is a very slow process, and what's worse is that the people reading the decisions read them wrong all the time. Because they use words like reverse and affirm, they get it wrong a lot.

AZ sends the appeal decisions electronically, so if you can get someone on the phone to read the decision and make the right interpretation, you can get your benefits within 24 hours.

Depending on your finances and patience, I'd wait 10 days, but if you need the money now, I'd try sending an email through the webpage. I think I remember reading from other CA people that they have a special phone number (that's the number you want to get by emailing) to fax your appeal paperwork to that speeds up the process. You can still try to call, but since all you need is that fax number, an email is probably the easiest route.

If you are successful in getting that fax number, come back and post it so that other CA appeal winners can get right on it.

In CA when I won my appeal, I was eligible and claiming benefits by the next week. I would advise certifying online, as it is much faster. That said, I was owed backpay that it took almost 2 months for them to process. The EDD rep needs to change a setting in the system to allow your benefits to be processed. If the rep is not able to do it, they are usually able to send an email request to the correct department to get them on it.

Get on the phone. You need to talk to them, make sure that things are progressing, and go from there.

Ok just a quick update... I just called the automated phone number and checked on the "last payment made" (thinking that I could maybe hear them say a check had been issued while I attempt to get a real person every day...) and it said a check was issued Monday for half of my owed amount. Great news!!! So quick!!

Go to the area of the forum that talks about how to contact EDD and actually get through. It recommends calling the number for Asians. Sorry I did not copy the details before becoming a member. Anyway, there are directions to push numbers at the end of or beginning of message. I tried this and it did not work, however, in desperation I pushed 0 and got through, after following the directions from the blog. Try it. They did help me as I explained the weeks that I had been trying to contact EDD without success.

OP, do as Diego says. Start dialing early a.m. before 8. Keep dialing. Use suggestions on last couple of posts on this thread to get through.

CA may need you to fax a copy of your decision letter to expedite processing.
