I am collecting emergency (extended) UI in Colorado.
I have no health coverage and recently started limping badly.
I am afraid that I am having a cartilage degeneration in my knees.
To confirm that or determine what exactly I have I need to go to doctors.
Currently I cannot afford any extra expenses.
My wife filed for a bankruptcy due to her ankle fracture. We had no savings left.
She is back to work and with her paycheck and my unemployment I am too rich for Medicaid.
I will have to claim my next payment and will have to answer if I am able to work.
What is going to happen when I answer - "No"?
What else can I do?
Thanks for any ideas.

You need to see an orthopedic -

A list of PCP Clinics in CO-
NeedyMeds Free Clinics List by State
Call before you go let them know your situation, get a name give a name so when you go you don't have to repeat yourself. The PCP can pretty much diagnose the issue if its something simple, great if you need an orthopedic the doc can pretty much refer you to a specialist that handles claims like yours.

This is why having universal health coverage in the US is important - Sadly this Obamacare isn't helping insurance premiums are expected to rise, so figure that out...

Unless you are bedridden, you are able to work. You answer the question "yes."

If you answer the question "no,' the state will accept your claim that you can't work. Your benefits will be turned off because you are not able and available. Your benefits will not be restored until you PAY to see a doctor who in turn writes a note stating that you are released to work. Since you can't afford treatment, you most certaintly can't afford to do what is necessary to fix things after answering that question "no."

I was on UI in 2010 and had a heart attack (CHF) and claimed I could work (Just barely) and so that's all they need.

Same thing happened to me back in 2009 when unem[ployed and the solution was fish oil. What it did was lubricate the joints and reduced the pain and eventually eliminated the limp. And like you I had no health coverage while I was searching for a job and needed a solution which ended up working.

So I will say try the fish oil which seems to work after 7 days once it gets in your system.

Also until the fish oil gets in your system use ice packs on tge knees for 30 mins every 2 hours for 2 days straight and you should see a difference.

Totally OT - but

Osteo Bi-Flex. Get thee to a Walgreens/CVS whatever. If you have any cartilage left at all, Osteo Bi-Flex WILL help restore it. In the beginning, take 3x day for two weeks. You should notice an improvement fairly quickly. If you are already bone on bone, might not work, but try it anyway. I have used the stuff for decades. Swear by it. Do not take if you're allergic to shellfish.

GNC Fish Oil triple strength works pretty good too. Just don't like the price

He should take both. Fish oil helps w/lubrication - BUT - OP's real issue is lost cartilage cushioning. This is what he really needs - if it isn't already too late. Once the cushioning/cartilage is gone, there is nothing to restore, but he won't know until he tries. Hope he hasn't waited too long.

Thank you everyone for the replies and suggestions.
Yes, I can work at the desk and that's pretty much what I have always done as a Analyst.
But if I would go to the interview limping and being after 50 of age, my chances of get hired would be very slim.

In fact I have had an interview 3 weeks ago. Was confident about outcome, but no callback.

My condition is progressing (I did not have joint pain last month) and that is scaring me.
I could go to my PCP for $75.00 but she would send me to the specialist and all kind of research (X-ray, CT, MRI, etc.) will put me out of budget.

So I wasn't sure how to handle that UI question. However, yesterday clerk at the DHS suggested that I should claim that I am able to work (limping harder every week) and come back after UI will exhausted and than will be able to get Medicaid. Not sure how that will look like but as a plan D maybe.

Today after visiting my mother at the Denver Health (she has a stroke recently) I stopped at the Adult Clinic and made an appointment for tomorrow for possible applying for Indigent Care program. Little hope, but maybe a plan C.

I started taking a Fish Oil today again. Was taking it early this year to reduce high triglycerides.

It wouldn't hurt in any case.

Depends on the outcome of tomorrow's appointment, I will look into that PCP NeedyMeds as well.

My problem is that if I will commit to any installment paid service, I will not be able to keep up with that after either losing or exhausting my benefits, I will be bankrupt and will lose my home.

Thank you everyone again for the replies. When life gives you a bad beating, every bit of help is priceless.
