the person that called me from the unemployment office kept interrupting me and wouldn't let me finish anything and voted for the employer.
I left a really good job for this one.
do I need to hire an employment lawyer? I haven't any money.

Denials are standard whenever the employer accuses you of anything which can remotely resemble misconduct.
You are incorrect, however, in saying "they always go with the employer." This is NOT true. Appeals are won every day of the week.
Before anyone can help you, we need to know:
- Your state.
- The exact words of the determination letter which identifies the reason for the denial.
These are the only things which matter. The other events mean nothing, and that includes your age. The focus needs to be on the employer accusation, any evidence they have to support their allegations, and your defense against it.
