Hopefully someone here has some advice as I am beyond frustrated :/ I am in California and had my previous job for 13 years. I applied for unemployment and collected checks for 2 weeks. I then landed a job and went through training for 2 days. I, maybe unfortunately, called my unemployment office and told them that I found a job and the benefits were not needed. After the 2 day training, I realized it was not going to work out. I let unemployment know and was denied my benefits. I appealed and was denied as well. During the phone calls and in person appeal, I was asked NOTHING about the job I had for 13 years and lost (which is why I needed the unemployment in the first place). They were solely focused on me quitting this job I had for 2 days. It has now been 3 months since my lay off (which, btw, was not because of any wrongdoings on my part). I have not been able to land a new job, am completely broke, and am wondering if filing a new appeal would even help.

Did I completely screw myself with this measly 2 day job? Should I just reapply for my benefits only listing the info from my 13 year job? Help!

Wish I could belp you but dealing with unemployment is a hassle. They disqualify you for filing at wrong time, too soon, not soon enough, and its a ploy to discourage you so you go away. Government agencys are known for that and whenever you apply for things you need to duplicate copies as they always get lost. Unfortunately most things are done over phone or computer.

Hardly. The denials are usually because of ignorance. Learn the system, and you can beat it.

Yes. The system is driven by the reason from your separation from your MOST RECENT work. That was the 2-day job. That's why they didn't care about your 13-year job. It was no longer an issue. Wouldn't have mattered if you worked 15 minutes. New job = new separation issue, and you quit without laying the foundation of a good cause quit. Had you known, you'd have just been the total idiot during your training, and when they showed you the door, you'd have had no trouble getting UI because inability is not misconduct.

In the past, that might have worked, but only for a while. You'd have been caught, and had an overpayment.

Because of the New Hire Database, you'd get caught, and you already told EDD about it. While some of their employees are stupid, they're not that stupid.

Well, you did choose to leave the 2-day job. Since you could be working now if you wanted to, most states won't let you get unemployment. Basically, no matter how bad the job is, if you quit you typically can't collect unfortunately. Even if you were there for two days.
