Hello,
I have been approved for CTB by the EDD, and also approved for a Training Extension when my original UI claim was exhausted. I have searched high and low through the EDD's forms and publications, but can't seem to find answers to some basic questions.

First, as a CTB participant I am exempt from 1) looking for work; 2) being available for work; and 3) accepting suitable work. So when filling out the Continued Claim Form, can I safely answer "No" to the question 3: "Did you look for work?" Likewise, can I safely answer "Yes" to question 4: "Did you refuse any work?" (in the event that the work offered conflicted with my training?).

Second, does the training extension expire like a normal UI claim? On my UI Online homepage, under "Benefit Year" it no longer shows an end date, but instead appears as "1/14/2018 [the claim start date] - On Extension." Does this mean I will continue receiving benefits at the Weekly Benefit Amount of my original claim until the Training Extension benefits are exhausted?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

You answer YES. We had a recent thread on this topic. EDD's system is not smart enough to know that you are in CTB. Therefore, if you say "no," you'll get a phone interview. You'll tell them that you're in CTB, and then they'll tell you to start making "yes," so that you don't have to go through this anymore.

Make your life easier by marking "Yes" now, and if called on the carpet, you'll be able to show that you were exempt.

Hopefully, someone else answers this one. I don't know. I just know because the other topic came up as someone was posting a "this is what happened," response.

Thanks for the reply, Chyvan. That's what I've been doing and I figured the system would flag it if I responded incorrectly. Strange that EDD's system is set up to require a potentially fraudulent answer, don't you think?

It's been like this in the past, it was like this in 2013 after the conversion to the Deloitte and Touche system, and that's just the way it is. All EDD has to do is publish instructions for those in CTB, and they'd cut down on work that doesn't need to be done.
