I collected 18 weeks of unemployment in 2018 which totals $4100.. I made $8,400 on W-2 and $6300 in cash for auto mechanic repair work I did at home. I filed everything on my 2018 tax.
I didn't get any "self-employed " work during the time I was collecting unemployment. I know I have to report any income to EDD during the claiming period.
My concern is, will I get audited once EDD sees my tax return for 2018? I do have receipts with date, type of work done and the amount charged that I wrote each time I did any work at home, but don't know if that is enough for them.
How can I be better prepared in case I'm called by EDD for review? This is in CA, by the way.
We don't know. It's always been a suspicion of mine that 1099s mixed with a 1099g would trigger something to make sure the work was not done while on UI.
Thanks for your reply Chyvan.
I’ve been searching posts with a similar situation, but haven’t found anything. The ones I found are about issued 1099’s.
I have a long memory. Not once has someone said that a 1099 with a 1099G started anything.
