Currently employed and living in CA so this is hypothetical.
Scenario 1 - I lose my CA job then apply for Unemployment, then move to TX.. will CA continue to pay my unemployment claim?
Scenario 2 - I quit my current job to move to TX to work for a new employer, 1 month after I am hired I am laid off. Which state pays my unemployment? How are quarterly wages determined - is it a combination of CA and TX income in aggregate. If each state requires that you use only that state's quarterly income to qualify do I have a choice as to which state to file a claim under?
Scenario 3 - I live in TX but work for a CA based company and i'm laid off. Is this a CA or TX claim since working for a CA company mandates me to pay CA taxes I am assuming I would qualify to open a CA unemployment claim?
Scenario 1: CA will continue paying your unemployment. You will be required to register with Texas workforce/reemployment/job services as a condition of continuing benefits.
Scenario 2: TX will pay your unemployment because your Last Employer was TX and that is the state that will adjudicate your unemployment under their state law. TX just does a standard combines wage claim with CA. Routine stuff. (Note, some states play stupid games with claimants over this in hopes it drags out so long you retire before getting benefits.)
Scenario 3: This isn't so cut and dry as there is a whole bunch more that goes into the issue of unemployment claiming state as well as state for taxes. Such thing as residence, location of work product, direct or indirect state contact, etc.. More info would be needed to be able to answer this one.
