Because I was certain I was going to be hired for a position, I stopped claiming my benefits a few months ago. Obviously, this was not very intelligent. A few weeks later, the job had not panned out. I assumed I could no longer collect benefits.

I still haven't had any luck finding a job and I just wanted to know if it is possible to continue collecting from where I stopped or if it is a giant waste of time to try.

Thanks for any insight!

I believe you can reopen your claim if you have a good excuse why the job didn't work out and how long you were employed for there.

When did your claim start? How many weeks did you collect before you stopped claiming? When did you stop claiming? Did you get hired at the new job and then get laid off, or did you not get hired there? If you're still not working, why would it be a waste of time to try to claim benefits that you are possibly entitled to? Try claiming and see what happens, it can't hurt. It's time to make that call (or visit).
