I'm not so quick to jump to paranormal explanations on things like this, but I'm curious what you all think, is it possible that an evil force was at work here?
I'll post some links in case you are not familiar with it, but I'll give the short version here:
A young woman from Canada was staying at The Cecil Hotel, near death row, in Los Angeles.
The Cecil has a very dark history.
She went missing on her last day, and after about 2 weeks of searching she was found after guests were complaining about water shortage in their rooms. The hotel checked on the water pumps which were at the top of the building (through locked doors, with alarms set up) and found the young woman's dead, naked, body at the bottom of one of them. (to my knowledge they never found her clothes...though I could be wrong on that)
In the investigation they found security footage from the elevator that shows her acting extremely strange, she was pushing a lot of buttons, though the doors never closed, she was hopping on and off the elevator, she was seemingly talking to someone who either was off camera or wasn't there, and she began making very strange motions with her hands. After she left heading down the hallway the elevator doors closed and opened several times. This was presumably the last anyone saw of her.
No drugs were found, nor suspected, no signs of abuse of any sort that would lead to the idea of murder (in fact her death has been ruled accidental). She was bi-polar though.
It would seem to be easy to call this a suicide, however a few things about that don't add up. #1, the Cecil is a huge building, many have committed suicide there and could be done by simply jumping from one of the high rooms. #2, how would she have gotten up to the water tank? Again, the doors were locked and there was an alarm. #3, in order for the responders to get her body out of the tank they had to cut into it.
I've found this topic discussed on the True Crime board, but haven't seen it brought up here. The authorities seem to believe no crime was committed, and suicide really doesn't seem plausible (I mean even if she wanted to kill herself that way, who thinks to go to the top of the building and drown themselves in the water tanks?) So what other explanations are there?
I have no idea what happened, but it is so eerie and suspicious to me. How do you "accidentally" end up naked and dead in a water tank on the roof of a building with the door to the roof locked?
The obvious answer is that someone who had access put her there and then locked all the doors/alarms, but my only question is about "cutting her out" of the tank. What do you mean? That there was no way to get into the tank and leave it closed up the same way, as when you open a plastic soda bottle and break the seal?
Wow. I have no clue what happened but it is kind of creepy and suspicious.
I can swear I saw a horror movie with a plot very similar to this - there was a girl who drowned or was murdered in the top of an apartment building and put in the water tank and something about the water in the building being black or something. She also haunted the building and/or apartment this lady and daughter had moved in to.
Back to the video, it looks like the elevator could have malfunctioned, but then she does look like she is maybe hiding from someone at one point. She does act kind of scared it looks like.
I'm still trying to figure out how she got into a sealed water tank and managed to close the lid after herself.
What do you mean, near "death row"? Do you mean skid row? Or death row as in a prison with death row?
Ooops, Skid Row, my apologies

The whole blog is interesting, but check out some of this stuff:
The story of Elisa Lam is eerily similar to the 2005 horror movie Dark Water. Dahlia, the main protagonist of the movie moves into an apartment building with her young daughter Cecilia. Both of these names are relevant. Black Dahlia is the nickname given to Elizabeth Short, a woman who was the victim of a gruesome murder in 1947 – one that appeared to be particularly ritualistic. The case was never solved. According to LA Observed, it is rumored that Black Dahlia was at Cecil Hotel right before she lost her life.
In the movie, the daughter’s name, Cecilia, is, obviously, quite similar to the name Cecil Hotel.
Having nothing to do with the film, but how's this for an odd coincidence?
Shortly after the discovery of Elisa Lam’s body, a deadly outbreak of tuberculosis occurred in Skid Row, near Cecil Hotel. You probably won’t believe the name of the test kit used in these kinds of situations: LAM-ELISA. That is hardcore synchronicity.

That part puzzled me as well, but after re-watching the video of news coverage in the link I posted above they said that the firemen had to cut into it to drain the water out before retrieving the body, which makes logical sense. You'd want to drain it before jumping in to get her out.

Yes, I think so. Sometimes we can logically explain things that otherwise make no sense, but in cases like these, there is no logical explanation, so it becomes "paralogical" or "outside the realm of what is logically understandable and normal."
Her behavior (speaking, moving in and out, talking with her hands) in the elevator make me feel she was communicating with some kind of being or energy that was clear to her but that was not visible or in any way detectable to anyone else. I don't believe she was on drugs. But I think something 'evil' or otherwise may have also led her to the hotel.
I have also read that her death may have had something to do with the Illuminati, which is something I really don't understand so can't say I believe it. But there have also been said to be Illuminati connections to the deaths of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
