I was taking a video on my Iphone of my bedroom to show my friend my new bedspread. With my eyes I could see a blue orb fly through the viewfinder on my phone camera and then disappear but I captured it in the video and could see it on replay. When I downloaded the vid to my computer and ran the vid I could see the same blue orb.. but here's where its gets confusing.

The orb doesn't show up every time when I replay the vid on my phone or my computer all the time. I'll look at my vids on the phone or computer and sometimes the blue will orb will be there, other times not. It's weird. I'm looking for a rational explanation. I'm posting this question here because I know there are posters who are great debunkers and are familiar with cameras and downloads. I'm hoping someone can give me an answer because it's a total mystery to me.

It's been awhile since we had an "orb" discussion. I don't even think it falls into the realm of a detailed "science of photography" debunking explanation, but more along the lines of common sense. Orbs are simply dust, pollen, maybe bugs caught either by sunlight or the flash and enhanced due to the focus of the lens and it's distance from the lens (or viewfinder).

The fact that it doesn't show up every time during replay might be due to the contrast or brightness setting, or the variabilities of the monitors you are viewing it on. Remember some phones have ad auto dimming feature.

However, here is a link that explains more:

While I appreciate your response.. the article doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I know orbs are dust particles.

My question is why is the blue orb thingy showing up on my phone and on my computer when I replay those videos but not every time I replay them. It happens on both the phone and the computer so it can't be any settings that I have, or the orb thing would be there all the time, or none of the time each time I view it. I saw the orb thing through the lens so I know I saw something and I captured it but why is that I can only see it sometimes?

I'm seriously looking for rational explanation of why this happens. I only wrote the post here because I know some posters here are great at debunking photographic images and vids and I'm hoping they can answer my question.

You don't need any photographic expert. I answered your question - logically extend the answer. The orbs don't dissapear from the screen. Your screen changes or your viewing environment changes (more or less light - ambient or sunlight - in the room) which may impact your visual perception. Or your monitor is not functioning properly. This is captain obvious stuff - you can't see as much viewing your screen in the sunlight right?

Do this test - run the video at night with all lights off. Run it again. Run it a third time on your monitor. Any change? If not then obviously it's your viewing environment or some sort of auto dimming feature. If it does change we consider step two - eliminating mechanical errors. Repeat for phone. Standard problem solving.

Another possibility is that it's some playback artifact related to video interlacing. You might try de-interlacing with a video converter.

What do you call the son of an orb named Roy?
A Roy orb son.

But seriously.........
Most orbs captured in photos
are just blurred dust particles.
I have only viewed a handful
of orbs in photos and videos
that were genuine. One photo
had what looked an eye within
an orb on a Polaroid snapshot.
This was in a book about ghosts
published in the early 1970's.
It was the early 1980's when I
borrowed it from a library and
I regret not making a copy of
that page. I don't remember the
title of the book either.

As we age our eyes also age. There is a condition called vitreous sac detachment that happens to most of us; I never even heard of it when I was younger. It isn't normally something to worry about and our bodies do adjust over time. Of course any change in your eyes and you should see the specialist; especially to make sure it is not a retinal detachment. But, if you are unaware that this can happen to you, when you start seeing pinpoints of light you could be worried. I am not saying that this is the case in the OP's orb. But sometimes we cannot trust what our eyes see.

Many people report seeing orbs or disc while traveling in their cars. But they are surrounded by glass and glass reflects light. The same is true of water. Of course a car passing by the OP's house could have projected the sunlight as a blue orb racing through their room and the camera could have captured it. Why it plays or doesn't play I have no idea?

Has anyone else seen the video, either from your camera or your computer, and noticed the same results you've seen?

I"m not very tech savvy and have no idea what you're talking about. Whatever you said sounds like a good plan though so can you dumb it down for me please?

I just tried to show my husband but it didn't show up at all and I could see that it didn't show up so I know I'm not crazy either, yet I saw it yesterday when I looked.

It's the weirdest thing and I can't explain it. It's a moving roundish blurry edged blue orb that flies quickly and leaves the smallest trail before it disappears in the vids. It lasts maybe a second before it disappears. The camera wasn't moving. I know it wasn't car lights or a reflection. I had my eyes checked this June and they're fine.

If the orb thing showed up every time I looked at the vid, I wouldn't even question it and would think it was a bug or reflection. But this orb like thing only shows up sometimes, but not all. Even when I watch the video a few times in succession it will show randomly. It will be in some of replays of the same video but not all the time.

I'm completely baffled by it. If it was white in color, I'd blame it on dust or a bug. If it was just limited to the camera vid.. I'd blame the camera.
If it showed up on my computer videos.. I'd think it was an issue with downloading or my computer but this orb thing is on both.

I've taken vids on my phone before and downloaded them to my computer and never had this sort of thing happen.
