UKIP incidentally means 'you chicken' in Dutch, one of the three official languages in Brussels.

The UK is in the EU and that isn't going to change. The sooner people came to terms with that and started thinking about how to turn membership to their advantage, the better. Electing better representation would be a good start.
On the whole people tend to vote for bodies with power, so that local government elections, for instance, get a poor poll. The powers of the EU Parliament are not known to British people and appear to be small, so they don't vote, leaving the thing to tiny minorities like the UKIP nutters.

What utter garbage!! The European Union has massive potential if it is managed right. It is way too easy for for those who do not understand economics, or that think lone European countries will have political or economic clout in the future, to think that independence from euro policy is the way forward. This is a complete misunderstanding of what the union is about, or its future standing and influence in a world where the balance of economic power s shifting east. Your points are just plain daft!

It's a vicious cycle isn't it. Sending idiots to represent you is going to result in you getting represented by idiots. And we've seen how that turns out.

What is it about the EU that Americans seem to fear so much?

As for being represented by idiots, well, Mr Farage only represents a very small area of the UK, George W Bush on the other hand, represented an entire country.

Amen! I live in the U.S. and basically the EU is drastically misunderstood here. What VTHokieFan mentioned is a common assumption of the EU in the U.S. (especially points 3 and 4, which are quite erroneous and basically Republican spin). Please, don't mistaken his comments for the views of an entire nation.

The three main parties are let downs, and don't get me started on Labour, they've ruined many parts of Britain due to their immigration policies. I'm not opposed to immigration but I am opposed to mass immigration, and that's exactly what Labour has allowed into Britain.
