York mosque counters EDL protest with tea, biscuits and football | UK news | guardian.co.uk

So proud of York!

I have ties to there and I know quite a few people who still live there. Lovely to see this.

It's a lovely, touching story. I hope those EDL members came away with something to think about.

Ahhh a story after my own heart.

If only all the worlds problems could be solved with tea and biscuits. (I think that's possible )

My motto on here for ages was "When in doubt, drink tea",
Think I'll revert back to that. You can't beat it.

I read that story a few days ago and thought how wonderful it was.

Yorkshire tea solves all problems! I'm going back to York on Monday to take my newborn daughter to meet the family, I can't wait!

I don't really support the likes of the EDL on any issue but I think its rather silly how the media potray the likes of the EDL or even the BNP as being on the same plain as islamist groups like the one that chaudray guy used to lead

one is concerned about the eroding of traditional british culture ( albeit in a crude and unsophisticated manner ) while the other wishes to force people to submit to islamic rule of law

It's tea and biscuits now, but just say bye bye to your rights, democracy, and freedom as you know it if they ever become the majority in your country. Muslims as a group are almost impossible to deal with in a rational manner once they reach critical mass, and say bye bye to your rights and democracy as you know them if they ever become the majority. The absolute subjugation of non-Muslims is a structural feature and mission of Islam. To the "true believers," one simply cannot be a good Muslim in the eyes of Allah if he doesn't support and "work" towards this end. It's as much a sociopathic political movement as it is a faith.

The faith and the Quran can be dismissed on scientific grounds alone as nothing more than the ramblings of a 7th century psycopath; but many of it's values and lines of thought should not only be rejected but actively opposed.

Westerners have for the most part ditched the draconian and absurd elements of their faiths or have ditched faith all together in favor of secularism, humanism, and liberalism. This same liberalism will be the West's undoing as their won't be any reciprocity to their tolerance. You people take your rights and freedom for granted, and don't realize how precious they really are.

This message was brought to you by a Hindu.

Now excuse me, I'm going to go make sure my doors are locked and peep out the window to see if anyone is planting a bomb in the undercarriage of my car.

The EDL and BNP, and extremist Islam, really are quite similar. At their core are serious nutters who appease unspeakable acts of murder (whether 9/11 or the holocaust), but beyond that are often lots of fairly normal people who feel they lack a voice and end up resorting to far less than ideal means to gain one.
