I am planning on going to Europe in March and my idea is to take the ferry from Hoek to Harwich and then from Harwich, try to visit at least 2 or 3 UK cities in 3 days

London is a given but usually I don't like to spend more than a day in a city. Would you recommend spending a day in London, another one in Birmingham and maybe the last day in a third city, if so, which one?

Is Birmingham or other secondary cities in the UK worth the trip? If not, is spending 3 days in London a better idea?

Spend the three days in London - it's big enough and varied enough - London's like a whole country in itself.

Frankly, and apologies to Brummie lovers, there is no real reason to want to go to Birmingham especially when on such a tight time schedule.

You'd have a better time going to a 'D List' of London sights than spend time and money going there.

If you want to get out and about there are plenty of places nearer to hand. It depends on what floats your boat.

Spend your time in London... get a DK eyewitness book!

From Camden Town where punk started and not far from Abby Road to Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark and a million things in between in the city center, you'll have no lack of things to see and do!

Have fun! I wish I was there right now!

Spend all three days in London and maybe include a day trip (Hampton Court perhaps?) a bit outside the city if you want to get a taste of life outside the bustle of the city. My husband and I spent three days in London last year and still only managed to see a smidgen of what the city has to offer.

London is my favorite city in the world! Closely followed by Fort Worth, Texas (and Fort Worth is a lot more affordable!).

In London, we stayed in a nice hotel in Westminster and that was less expensive (and much more roomy) than hotels right in the middle of the touristy sections. The bus stop for the "On and Off" double decker buses was right around the corner, and so that was convenient, but even the walk to Westminster Abbey and beyond wasn't too taxing. It was also quieter being in a more "business oriented" district. When we go back, we'll do the same again.

Agree. Do all 3 days in London. For a nice day out take a boat down the Thames to Greenwich.

Base your 3 days in London and perhaps one day go to Windsor.

Try to do a drive-through London at night, best done with a local driver who appreciates London. Iconic sights like St Paul's, and the Houses of Parliament (amongst others) are almost eerie in their beauty.

Like others here on CD I urge you to spend your three days in London.

I've done that a few times and I can still remember driving through the City in the early hours with the road almost to myself- it was great.

I like the idea of the Thames trip.
