yes there are, but many are in danger as its only the older folk that talk like that, younger people all tend to talk the same in a modern non accented way.

Probably southern, certainly not north of England or at least I could not spot any northern way of pronouncing words in what he was saying

My wife's Yankee Vermont accent can sound a bit English at times but a lot of early settlers in that State had British origins along with those with origins in French speaking Canada. The name itself seems to be of French origin Ver mont (Vert mont) meaning green mountain.

Yes, during the Revolution troops formed from that area were called the Green Mountain Boys.
