I think a lot of anti-Americanism was due to the hatred of Bush and the Iraq war and the feeling in this country that Blair cared more about allegiance with the US than his own people...but now Obama's in power and the healthcare reform and Guantanamo bay and that have started to go through, I think it has receded somewhat.

I agree with that. I was often asked why so many people voted for Bush and were there that many stupid people?! Bush was elected/illegally appointed prez just 7 months after I moved here so I had endure the jokes for all of his reign. I always made it known that I never voted for him!

The US has gained lots of respect by electing Obama.

Yes, but ask those same Brits WHY exactly Bush was so bad and I bet they won't have a clue about his domestic policies.

He couldn't put a proper sentence together. He was an idiot and made America a laughing stock. Domestic policies made no difference to anyone outside the US - Iraq, the war mongers he surrounded himself with, the Freedom fries rubbish, the 'either you're with us or you're with the terrorists', etc...

I've said this before... anyone who judges Americans based on their current president, especially if they have no clue who a certain American voted for, is just a moron and I really don't give a crap what they think.

Yes, you have. Several times. However, the question is about anti-Americanism. Yes or no.

I wouldn't expect Americans to hate us if we're dumb enough to vote Brown back in, or if we kept re-electing Blair. It's really none of their business, and it works both ways. Americans respect the presidential office in a way this cynical country will never understand. I don't like the Bush/Kennedy/Clinton dynasties, but that's up to them.

My point was about asking the same Brits about 'their' reasoning for hating Bush - not yours. And although I wouldn't have voted for him, he is actually a lot smarter than people here would give him credit for.

The fact that so many millions of Americans voted for this moron reflects on Amercians in general, thus painting Americans as not too bright. Throw in the rise in fundamentalist xtians....
