Now this is my favorite idea yet!!! Hi Mike! Glad to see you on this thread!

It's just like, it's just like, a minimall!

This is what that guy did, and he ended up owning a flea market, becoming an internet celebrity, and doing ads for local businesses aside from his own.

here in Cincy they turned an old wal mart into a type of flea market with optionally-manned booths named peddler's mart. very creative use in my opinion. it also allows the vendors access to a pretty big market with a low cost of entry. will post pictures later.

(the wal mart shell left because wal mart is now doing the super wal mart thing a few miles away)

a k mart shell in the same general area is being converted into an office complex (http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2...-highland.html).

That's the best sort of conversion, IMO, becuase it involves very little change of the building. I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.

How about indoor tennis courts? You wouldn't need to change a building much to put those in.

There's so much empty commercial space in Las Vegas it's mind-boggling.

At my nearest intersection, 4 spanish-speaking evangelical churches have opened in the last year, 4 in the same strip, two right next to each other, and katty korner is the bigger one, #5, which now occupies a former Bank of America building. Then let's go down the street another mile to find two more, spanish speaking churches.

Dillard's, a huge two story building, separated from the rest of Boulevard Mall, has been vacant for a year now, along with a big Bed and Bath building.

Driving around Las Vegas I've seen entire commerical centers empty, save one store or two.

More and more churches?

It's Vegas! Elvis-themed wedding chapels and casinos, of course.

We had a company near me that went into empty big boxes that were in strip shopping center. and small malls, they would set up and sell books, dvd,cd etc that they bought on close out from the publisherx. Hardcovers $5 paper back $1. CD/DVD..... They didn't pay any rent, just utilities, because they would draw thousands to each day. Providing traffic to the others in the stip/mall. When the owner got someone to rent the space, they have a clean out the building sale Shopping bag of books $10. for as many as you can fit. they would then pack up the plywood tables & saw horses, and move on to another location.

Okay here are the promised pictures

The sort of blurry one of a guy at a desk is very interesting. He is using it as office space and a couple of clients visited while i was in the store. There were some people in the store, but I didn't photograph them.
