Which transit system has the best looking heavy rail (subway) cars? My top two picks, in order, are:

#1. PHILADELPHIA: SEPTA Market-Frankford Line M4

#2. NEW YORK: MTA R142 A

Tokyo. The East Japan Railway. Public transit doesn't get any better.

Nice trains, people.

Kaaboom, do you know if the lower trains are interurban trains?

Talking about Japan, I realise this isn't quite on topic, but these trains are adorable:

Here in Sydney, our suburban trains are double decker trains.

The more modern ones are called Tangara, Waratah and Oscar.

Here is a youtube video showing the Waratah train:

(Btw Sydney's stations are usually far busier than the one above. The station shown, Olympic Park, is connected to where the Olympic Games was held. Olympic Park is mainly used for special events including things like the Royal Easter Show and various sporting events. So outside those special events times, the station is often very quiet.)

Btw I just wanted to say that I think the Oscar train is nicer but as it is used more as an interurban train (between Sydney and Newcastle/Wollong/Blue Mountains), I wasn't sure if it could be considered "heavy rail":

I believe they are express commuter trains, like this.

Kaaboom, that's what I thought. The comfy looking seats looked like they were for the express/longer distance suburban/interurban trains.

I used to commute to Sydney from the Central Coast which is an "interurban" service (about 1 hour from Sydney). The majority of trips were on the V set trains (btw I'm learning a lot about all the different types of trains in Sydney lol). They aren't necessarily the "best looking" but the seats are more comfortable than the suburban trains. They all had toilets in them as well (sometimes clean, sometimes not):

Love the acceleration and have seen them touch 90 mph on the AC line.

It is funny, I was just on the "What skyline is that" thread and was just looking up a town in New Jersey and there was a picture of a train and I thought, now that's a nice looking train. I come over here and you've just posted a video of it lol.

Here is my favorite Rapid transit train. I just like it, no matter what people tell me, because I was born and raised here.
