Dallas is very sprawly, and with zoning you are going t find that walkability rates drop for sprawly cities.
Edit: then again SA is more sprawly than Dallas, and they also have zoning but have more people living in walkable areas, so I dunno.

I am surprised that Houston was so high. we get so much flack for not being walkable

That's a load of crap. Here's my address in the walkscore calculator:
Walk Score of 618 north boylan ave raleigh nc 27603
Since there are 84 condos in my building and several other buildings and lots of single family houses in the immediate area, I don't see how they come to zero.

Some others:
200+ Condos here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/400-W...leigh-nc-27603
200+ Apartments here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/712-T...leigh-nc-27603
Hundreds more here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/222-G...leigh-nc-27603
Several dozen units here: 510 Glenwood Ave raleigh nc 27603
2 large condo and one large apartment complex in a row here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/300-W...leigh-nc-27603
Hundreds of condos here: 300 fayetteville St raleigh nc 27603
Hundreds of historic homes & apartments here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/1100-...leigh-nc-27605
Main Gate to the state's largest university here: http://www.walkscore.com/score/2000-...leigh-nc-27603

This is just scratching the surface.

According to Walkscore.com, 8% of Raleigh has walkscores higher than 80. At 400,000, that translates to 32,000. Surely this isn't Manhattan but it's also NOT zero.

Hate to break it to you but Houston's walkability score is only two points higher than Dallas' (49 vs. 51). Atlanta's is two points higher than Houston's at 53. The difference is that Oak Lawn has a walkability score of 78 and a population of 42,000. Why 80 was chosen as the way to determine walkability is a mystery to me. The walkability score of the whole city should be taken into consideration.

So I cant take this list seriously.

235,565 seems a bit high for Jersey City. That's 97% of its total population.
Either way, I didn't know it would rank THAT high.

Newark, I believe.

Houston is not the one sitting one from the Bottom on the list above. Dallas is.

Houston is much much larger than Dallas in land are so that will bring down the score, but I hate to break it to you but on the list above Houston is ranked at 21, Dallas....waaaay at the bottom

Oaklawn has a score of 78 but areas of Montrose is like 94, so what???

Walk Score of 77006

The Montrose area itself has a score of 84, and has 29K people
Midtown has a score of 85
Downtown a score of 82, and has a pop of 12K
River Oaks has a score of 77 and has a pop of 27K
Rice is at 73 and a pop of 15K
Uptown is 70 and has a pop of 55K

A list of what? Someone choose a random number of 80 and made a list. If I choose to make a list of 77, Dallas would be much higher.

Only the total walkability score can be looked at for any kind of credible score. I know you're probably thrilled at this list, but it's not credible to just choose a random number and make a list on it.
