Does Saint George descriminate against hiring men that are not active or non mormon? Our Son is 32 and is conserned about this, we are members but we are inactive right now. Will he be uncomfortable in Utah?

It's illegal to discriminate based on religion. It's illegal for a prospective employer to even ask a person's religion. There are hundreds of thousands of people employed at businesses throughout Utah (including St. George) who are not Mormon.

Of course it's illegal....

But how often does that stop a hiring manager from deciding that applicant A is better qualified, especially since he has a great recommendation from his bishop?

I don't know. You tell me since you evidently know. How often does it happen?

Our family moved here just over 2 years ago...My son and his wife had no problems finding jobs.....I am sure there might be family owned businesses and such that might "discriminate" as you put it...In our cases we have had no negative experiences...
The job market as a whole is kind of tight right now, I would be more concerned from that angle...
A new Walmart is opening in the area and I heard there were over 1,100 applications submitted, with 263 people being hired...From what I understand there was everything from contractors to realtors that applied...

Good luck

I've had a little experiance with this subject and have a good non-Mormon friend who works for a Mormon family owned business. He's very good at what he does so that's all that matters. If a private business owned by anyone of a specific group or belief only wants to hire employees of the same persuation they won't advertise the opening. They would get the word out among themselves and most folks outside the group wouldn't even know. Is there anything wrong with it? Technically yes I suppose but if you don't know about it why care.
