I am going to be moving to the Vernal area and was wondering what the weather is like. Is there alot of snow in the winter, how about the temps. Are there areas that get more or less snow. Never even been to utah so dont know what to expect. Thanks for the help.

I've only been there once, but the area struck me as quite arid. I would imagine there is not a lot of snow in the winter, but it certainly would occur. It can also be quite cold there in the winter.

Vernal is quite out there. I was there once in the summer and it was extremely dry and very windy!

My family lived in Vernal for several years when I was a kid. Very windy and dry in the summer as mentioned, doesn't snow often, but when it does it snows a lot and sticks around for awhile. Very cold too, in the winter.

I've lived in Vernal the past few years. It would help to know what climate you're coming from but...it is very dry here. In height of summer 90s are common but low humidity makes it much better. I've seen it over 100 a few times and humidity or not, that's hot. Like they say, "It's a dry heat....but so is a blowtorch". Winters are generally mild, cold nights but days can be pleasant. If we aren't having an inversion (we're in a basin so cold air can trap warm air and create an inversion = overcast, hazy/foggy--it went on for weeks my first winter here, lately not so much) winters can be pleasant enough. We sit at 5,300 feet so if it's sunny it's not too bad at that altitude. The mountains (eastern Uintahs) near us have gotten decent snows the past couple of winters. Snow in town is not that common. Just trying to remember but last winter I'd say we had less than 10 snowfalls and a BIG one was probably 5"; total for the winter was probably less than 20". Roads melt and clear pretty quickly. Snow can stay down for weeks, especially in shaded areas. Snowmelt is very important for the Uintah Basin and the past couple of years have been better. We are currently just under 2" of normal precip. for this time of year, so we're still on the tail end of a drought. So the weather is okay, not the best I've lived in but certainly not the worst. Check out weatherbase.com for more details. Good luck.
