Hi, I am relocating to the Or, or vancouver area in March. Can anyone please tell me what areas to stay away from. I would like to stay away from crime areas. I have a dog and a child, so the neighborhood is very important to me.I am currently living out of state, so will have to rent sight unseen. I am considering renting a home at 7910 NE 61st Circle. Can you tell me anything good/bad about this area? Other options that I have been lookig at are these:

off I205 Gher Rd exit. Image Elem / Evergreen HS

1817 NW 95th St

7622 Ne. 159th Ave. Vancouver

3519 NE 42nd Street, Vancouver

I would really appreciate any replies if you are from or know of these area's.

Thanks,
Regina

All of those areas are good. I would rank your first choice down to choice number four, and choose 1817 NW 95th St as my first choice. The following are close to where I live and are very safe, close to shopping, and the schools are good: 7622 Ne. 159th Ave. Vancouver and 3519 NE 42nd Street, Vancouver.

Those are all decent to well to do areas. As long as you stay away from the downtown neighborhoods and the area along 18th St (from Grand to Stapelton) you'll be alright.

BTW, Image is a good school. Both Cascade Jr High and Evergreen high School are both 'new' now too. Cascade was rebuilt and EHS was remodeled.

4404 NE 169th is a good area. Close to Washington State University Vancovuer campus. How much do you ant to spend on rent? Do you want to be near town or more rural?

I live in the west side of town....Minnehaha and I love it here. We live in a nice family neighborhood that is very quiet and safe. I will miss it here when we move up North and I hope that we can find similar place up there that is close to shopping and a safe area. Good luck and you will love it here in Vancouver.

4404 NE 169th is a good area...near WSU ...but too far north for very frequent bus service if that is important (I think this is the best area that you mentioned, but is not too central)
do you need public transportation, or can you drive everywhere?

I am way far away, (~ 50 min) or I would drive by that place.

With a dog and Child (how big are these characters?) you might want to be near a park, school yard, or on acreage, it depends on your choice. Do remember that the abundant rain means abundant lawn-mowing in the spring and fall. Apartment or a 'groomed neighborhood' might be nice. When we first moved to town ~ 25 yrs ago we stayed in Fircrest area, and had a school yard and cemetery to play in while kids were young. (we would go watch the backhoes in Morning and evening, and run / bike through the sprinklers in heat of afternoon. There was a subdivision directly east of Fircrest school that had yard maint provided (no fences tho... open neighborhood.) It wasn't too bad. ~ 120-125th Ave and NE 5th to 9th st. place has grown.

If you have not decided yet where to go, the NE 159th house is in a good area. If you want more information on schools in the area of your move, you can go to the state education web-site. Just search OSPI WA and look at the school report card drop down. The house on 159th is in very good Evergreen School District Schools.
