Cascade Park and other places east of i-205 were annexed beginning in 1997. And since then, mnay more acres have been annexed. Prior, it was county jurisdiction. I'm trying to think of how many project the City of Vancouver has spent on environs east of I-205. I know Columbia Tech Center and the Mill Plain Extension was one, and making 192nd a boulevard. Oh, and they made 134th into a weird roundabout road. Other than that, what has the City done for the Eastside?

Meanwhile, "downtown" has received millions and millions of dollars in road upgrades, prperty tax abatements and now the riverfront project.

Does it seem inequitable?

Most of the area from 205 to about the present-day 192nd was annexed starting around 1993 or 1994ish. Cascade Park (where I was living then; Hearthwood, boundary exception) and Vista Del Rio were certainly annexed then and my parents and grandparents were not exactly pleased.

It's about tax revenue. The city can't collect from unincorporated areas. What's the city done? Levied and collected tax and over-inflated service bills on the east side. Follow the money.

City of Vancouver is going to focus on the westside... it is their home (office) they go there everyday and get exposed to the issues, West is older and needs more $$ AND it is closer to Portland and the "Sore Thumb". City of Vancouver will pour 99% of the funds into the west side if they feel it is needed (regardless if it is effective). It's called politics. I spent worthless decades fighting for the rights of tax payers...

May you be blessed with endurance and good health.

in what specific ways do you think the east side has been shorted?

The streets seem in good shape. The parks are being equally maintained. The fire stations and police coverage seems adequate. I don’t see any areas of concern. I’d be happy to see better parks maintenance and better bike paths but that applies to all of Vancouver not just the east side.
